The Uganda Agricultural
Productivity Enhancement Program
(APEP) is a five-year USAID-funded activity that commenced
implementation in November 2003. APEP aims to expand
rural economic opportunities and increase household
income
in the agricultural sector by increasing food and cash
crop
productivity and marketing.
The program builds on sector successes with added emphasis
on creating economies of scale that catalyze transformation
of
agriculture from low input/low output, subsistence within
the targeted commodities, APEP addresses
production-to-market transactions, improvements in input
distribution, and the development of competitive agricultural

to reach producers and work with producers to respond
and organize themselves. APEP also works with producer
organizations to develop linkages, management systems,
and revenue streams. Specifically, APEP focuses on the
following activities:
- Technology generation, including agricultural research
- Technology transfer, through farmer field demonstrations
- Post-harvest handling
